About Geiranger

Surrounded by soaring mountains and set at the foot of a UNESCO-protected fjord, Geiranger is one of the most beautiful villages in Norway. It’s perched on the eastern tip of Geirangerfjord, one of the country’s most spectacular natural wonders.

Boat tours take you out onto the water, where you can marvel at cascading waterfalls tumbling down the sheer cliffsides. For a different perspective, head up to Flydalsjuvet Lookout to get a bird’s eye view of the cobalt-blue fjord.

Visit the Norwegian Fjord Center to learn about the fascinating cultural and geological history of the region. It occupies a striking glass-and-timber building and features a fantastic café where you can enjoy coffee and cake with a view.

From traditional Scandinavian taverns to luxe chef-inspired restaurants, you’ll find plenty of dining options in Geiranger. Some occupy charming historic buildings while others command sweeping views over Geirangerfjord.

Getting there

Geiranger is located within the West Norwegian Fjords UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a two-hour drive from Alesund and seven hours from Bergen. The famous Trollstigen mountain road connects the town of Åndalsnes with Geiranger and ferries run between Geiranger and Hellesylt in around one hour.
