Where to stay in Salihorsk

About Salihorsk

Overlooking the waters of Salihorskaje Vadaschovisjtja lake, Soligorsk is a lively Belarusian city south of Minsk. It was established in 1958 and has a rich mining past, while it’s also famously home to the Belarusian Premier League football club of FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk.

Things to do

In the heart of Soligorsk is the Pamyatnik Shakhteru monument, a powerful sculpture depicting a miner with a light on his head to honour the city’s industrial past. Also of note is the Pervyy Kamen, a contemporary whitewashed sculpture set within a peaceful park. There are several walking paths where you can stretch your legs and the home ground of FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk is just a stone’s throw away at Budaŭnіk Stadium.

If you’re interested in the region’s cultural heritage, pay a visit to the Krayevedcheskiy Muzey, which is designed to resemble a mining passage. There are exhibits dedicated to Belarusian culture, folk crafts and ethnography, as well as the Great Patriotic War that took place between 1941 and 1945. Learn about the short history of Soligorsk and the discovery of the Starobinskoye potash salt deposit, then admire the small collection of 19th and 20th-century artwork.

On the shores of Salihorskaje Vadaschovisjtja is the Children’s Beach, which offers safe swimming waters for families in the summer months. Backing the lakefront park is an exhibition detailing Belarus’s involvement during the war in Afghanistan, with monuments to those who lost their lives and an army tank on display.

Getting around

Soligorsk is around two hours’ drive from Minsk and Minsk National Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe and China. Regular trains connect from Mahilyow to the Soligorsk railway station and buses travel throughout the city. The centre of Soligorsk is compact enough to explore on foot.
