Set in north-west Wyoming, the 130,000-hectare Grand Teton National Park is a stunning expanse of snow-capped mountains, crystal-clear lakes, glaciers home to a wealth of mammals, birds, fish and reptiles. More than 320 kilometres of hiking trails offer exploration throughout the national park, which is also known for its backcountry camping, world-renowned trout fishing and mountaineering tracks.
Marvel at the behemoth Grand Teton mountain range, which features the towering Grand Teton mountain with a peak elevation of 4,199 metres. It’s one of the most popular mountaineering destinations in the United States and is a wonderland of powdery snow during winter. During summer, you can enjoy boating, sailing, wakeboarding and windsurfing on Jackson Lake.
Active travellers will love the range of hiking trails, from the easy Hermitage Point Trail to the challenging Paintbrush Canyon, Alaska Basin and Garnet Canyon trails. Visit the Colter Bay Visitor Center & Indian Arts Museum to see native artwork and keep an eye out for local wildlife, such as gray wolves, bison, moose, harlequin ducks and coyote.
Getting there
Grand Teton National Park is 10 minutes south of Yellowstone National Park, surrounded by gateway townships, such as Big Springs, Jackson and Rigby. You’ll need a hire car to reach the national park, while Idaho Falls Regional Airport is just under two hours’ drive away.
