Where to stay in Lop Buri

About Lop Buri

Easily accessible from Bangkok, Lopburi Province lures travellers in with its rich history and beautiful rural landscapes. You can gaze up at ancient Khmer temples, scale rugged limestone peaks and walk through sunflower-strewn fields in the Lopburi countryside.

Things to do

Nicknamed the "Monkey City", Lopburi is home to cheeky macaques around the city's Khmer-style temples and palaces. The iconic Buddhist temple of Prang Sam Yot is topped by a trio of sandstone towers, while Wat Khao Chin Lae has sweeping mountain views and peacocks strutting around the grounds.

Set in the hilly countryside, the Lopburi Sunflower Fields offer one of Thailand's most photographic spots. They're in full bloom from November to January, when the fields explode in a sea of golden flowers.

Escape to Ang Sap Lek, a scenic reservoir hemmed in by limestone cliffs. You can cool off in the water or dine at one of the "floating" restaurants strung along the western bank. Swim, sunbathe or picnic at Wangkanlueang Waterfall, home to turquoise pools and waterfalls.

Food is always a highlight in Thailand, and Lopburi Province is no exception. Across the region you'll find sizzling street stalls serving chicken skewers, pad Thai, minced pork and mango sticky rice, with some of the best vendors found at the bustling Lopburi Night Market.

Getting around

Much of Lopburi, including the Old Town, is easy to get around on foot or using a bicycle, while taxis and tuk-tuks cover longer distances. Drive from Bangkok to Lopburi in two hours or catch the train in three hours. You'll also find local buses and shuttles running throughout Lopburi Province.
