About Siracusa

Things to do in Siracusa

With its centuries-old towns and ruggedly beautiful coastline, the Province of Syracuse is not to be missed.

Sightsee in Syracuse. Serving as the capital of the province is the city of Syracuse, which is clustered with ancient ruins that include both a Greek and Roman theatre. Get up close to marble carvings and terracotta artefacts at the Museo Archeologico Regionale Paolo Orsi, then visit the Orecchio di Dionisio, a unique limestone cave within the Latomia del Paradiso quarry.

Wander the Baroque streets of Noto. Founded in 1703 after a devastating earthquake, Noto is clustered with Sicilian Baroque-style buildings that include magnificent palaces and a striking cathedral. Marvel at the Hall of Mirrors within Palazzo Ducezio and step through the monumental Porta Reale, which was built to honour the arrival of King Ferdinand II of Bourbon.

Explore Vendicari Nature Reserve. In the south of Syracuse is the Vendicari Nature Reserve, which encompasses sandy beaches and salt marshes that attract migratory birds travelling between Europe and Africa. Relax on untouched Marianelli Beach or swim in the rocky cove of Calamosche before visiting the remains of the 18th-century tuna processing factory.

Discover UNESCO-listed Palazzolo Acreide. One of the Province of Syracuse’s most charming villages is Palazzolo Acreide, which is nestled in the Iblei Mountains. It’s home to the charming Church of San Sebastiano and a Neoclassical town hall, as well as a small Greek theatre that hosts classical performances in the summer months.
