About Pelion

Pelion Peninsula will enchant you with its dramatic mountain landscapes and sparkling sea views. The hook-shaped peninsula juts off the Greek mainland, with the Pagasetic Gulf on one side and the Aegean Sea on the other. Swim in cerulean bays, explore medieval villages and eat your fill of ocean-fresh seafood.

Things to do in Pelion

The Pelion Peninsula is part of a coastal mountain range covered with beech, oak, maple and chestnut forests. Scenic trails criss-cross the peninsula and immerse you in the beautiful mountain landscapes. The loop trail starting in the village of Kala Nera follows sections of the old Moutzouris Railway track. Cool off in Katafidi Waterfall and stop for lunch in the tiny village of Milies.

The Pelion Peninsula boasts some of the most beautiful coastlines in Greece, with beaches for every occasion. Lively resort towns like Agios Ioannis and Horefto combine beautiful sandy beaches with excellent cafes, bars and restaurants. For a quieter scene, escape to Mylopotamos Beach, a turquoise bay fringed by white pebble sand and rugged cliffs. Fakistra Beach is another hidden gem with jewel-toned water and honey-coloured sand. Access is via a steep downhill path which keeps the crowds away.

Drag yourself away from the beach to explore the postcard-perfect villages that dot the peninsula’s mountainous interior. Argalasti is one of the prettiest and is surrounded by olive groves and fig tree farms. Stroll around the medieval village centre and admire frescoes in centuries-old Agios Nikolaos Church. Cobblestone paths wind up to Agios Georgios, a ridgetop village with far-reaching views over the Pagasetic Gulf.

Sampling the unique flavours of the Pelion Peninsula is a highlight for foodies. Spentzofai, a rich stew made with pork sausage, onions and aubergines, is a local specialty. Locally grown fruit is abundant, with Pelion farmers growing some of the best apples and plums in Greece.

Getting around Pelion

All resorts, towns and villages on the Pelion Peninsula are pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. Walking is a scenic and eco-friendly way to explore the peninsula. Nea Anchialos National Airport in Volos is a one-hour drive from Milies, 1.5 hours from Argalasti and two hours from Milina.
