Doi Suthep-Pui is a mountainous national park located in the Chiang Mai region of Northern Thailand. Flushed with evergreen trees and rolling hills, visitors can enjoy waterfall views, guided cave tours and camping excursions.
Thanks to the cool climate in Doi Suthep-Pui there’s an array of wildlife to see, including wild boar, crocodile salamander and the common muntjac. Pack your binoculars too, as over 300 species of birds nest and migrate to the region each year.
Part of the Thanon Thong Chai Range, the Doi Suthep-Pui park boasts three main peaks; Doi Suthep, Doi Buak and Doi Pui. Drive to the top of Doi Suthep Peak to find the biggest attraction in the area, a Buddhist temple known as Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Built in the 14th century, the temple is incredibly sacred and boasts fantastic views over Chiang Mai. Bhubing Palace is a royal residence also located in the Park and many travel far and wide to visit the stilted building.
Getting there
The Doi Suthep-Pui National Park is less than an hour drive by car, taxi or bus from downtown Chiang Mai. Once here, visitors can enjoy hiking, walking and biking amongst the mountains.
