From the minute our taxi pulled up, the staff was outside to greet us and help us in. I've never had such a warm, friendly reception. We only booked for one night as wanted to experience a ryokan, but it was too short to fully appreciate. Definitely recommend at least two nights. We booked a Japanese-style room, with tatami mat floors and a futon for sleeping. I slept great, but I think they also have Western-style rooms if you have a bad back. Located in downtown Kyoto, close to a lot of restaurants, temples and public transport.
