The remains of ancient stone walls encircle Atina. Up close, you’ll notice the use of unique polygon-shaped blocks designed to resist earthquakes. The town centre features architecture from throughout the centuries. Showpieces include Gothic-style Palazzo Ducale built in the 1300s by an Italian nobleman and the magnificent Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Teodoro Mancini, an acclaimed 19th-century Italian artist, painted the frescoes that decorate the interior of the Baroque cathedral.
