The remains of ancient stone walls encircle Atina. Up close, you’ll notice the use of unique polygon-shaped blocks designed to resist earthquakes. The town centre features architecture from throughout the centuries. Showpieces include Gothic-style Palazzo Ducale built in the 1300s by an Italian nobleman and the magnificent Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Teodoro Mancini, an acclaimed 19th-century Italian artist, painted the frescoes that decorate the interior of the Baroque cathedral.

Admire sketches, drawings and charcoal portraits at Museo Académie Vitti. The museum is dedicated to the famous art school founded in Paris in the late 1800s by a family from Atina. Many of the students were taught by European masters such as Paul Gauguin and Jacques-Émile Blanche.
