With its cobblestone streets and colourful townhouses, downtown Bitola is a great place for a stroll. Most of the action is centred along Sirok Sokak, the city’s bustling pedestrianised thoroughfare. A maze of side streets branch off either side and are a great place to discover bohemian cafes, pint-sized jazz bars and ambient tavernas.
While you’re in the area, don’t miss the cavernous Old Turkish Bazaar where you can stock up on fresh produce, colourful spices and tasty Macedonian treats.
With its Roman baths, spacious amphitheatre and crumbling episcopal palace, Heraclea Lyncestis is one of Macedonia's most fascinating archaeological sites. Continue the theme at the Museum of Bitola which spotlights everything from ancient history to the city’s role in WWI.

Getting around Bitola
In the historic core, walking is the best way to get around. Most sites are within walking distance of Shirok Sokak, including the ancient city of Heraclea Lyncestis. Taxis and local buses run throughout the city, with both the bus and train located one kilometre south of the city centre, offering great connections to Macedonia and Greece.
