Things to do in Bogra
Built in the 8th century AD, Gokul Medh is one of the oldest and best preserved archaeological sites in Bangladesh. The ancient Buddhist temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and features multiple terraces. As you explore the ruins, you’ll notice the intricate stone carvings and incredible attention to detail.
Bogra is an excellent base for visiting Paharpur and Mahasthangarh, two of the most iconic archaeological sites in Bangladesh. Paharpur is a centuries-old Buddhist monastery dotted with sculptures of Hindu gods. At Mahasthangarh, you can get lost in a maze of grass-covered ruins.
Bogra boasts some of the best restaurants in Bangladesh and is a fantastic place to sample local cuisine. Save your appetite for dishes such as fragrant fish curry, fluffy “paratha” roti bread and “kachchi biryani” rice cooked in a traditional clay oven. Taxis are the easiest and most comfortable way to get around Bogra, while local buses and auto-rickshaws are quick and affordable. The main bus station is two kilometres from the city centre, while Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka is a five-hour drive away.
