About Bouillon

Nestled in a curve of the Semois river, the scenic resort town of Bouillon is known as the “Pearl of the Semois Valley”. Known for its historic sites and religious and artistic heritage, it also makes a good base to explore the forests, ravines and castles of the Ardennes, which evoke Grimm’s fairy tales.

Things to do in Bouillon

What better place to start your sightseeing than Bouillon Castle, that dominates the small town? You can climb to the top of the 1,000-year-old chateau’s highest tower for outstanding views of the countryside or descend into the dungeons for a look at the ancient chambers. There are also two museums, one which covers the general history of the town and another which tells the story of Godfrey de Bouillon’s part in the Crusades.

Surrounding the town are hills and woods, which provide ample opportunity to hike, cycle, kayak or rock climb. In keeping with the prevailing medieval theme, you can also take archery lessons, give falconry a try, or go for a ride in a horse-drawn carriage.

The forests of the Ardennes are home to boar, deer, wild mushrooms and walnuts, which all make their way onto the menus of local restaurants. The perfect accompaniment is one of the craft beers brewed just outside Bouillon, flavoured with lemon, orange and coriander.
