Campo di Marte is the sports and recreation hotspot of the capital city of Florence, Italy, located in Quartiere 2 in the northeast area of Florence bordering the historic city centre. The region consists of primary roads including the Vialedei Mille, a boulevard along the Africo, and ring roads to the west separate the two quarters of the city.
Campo di Marte serves many of the major sports teams in Florence and contains multiple facilities consisting of the Artemio Franchi soccer stadium, Luigi Ridolfi athletics stadium, and the Paul Costoli Municipal Swimming Pool. In addition to prestigious sports venues, Campo di Marte offers popular concerts, notable restaurants such as the Piazza del Vino and Badiani Gelateria, and the historic Church of the Seven Holy Founders.
The Campo di Marte area is easily accessed to and from most areas of Florence via public bus and train routes from the Florence Campo di Marte Station, an important crossroads station between the south and northern regions of Italy. The closest airport is the Florence Airport located 30 minutes away.
The official region of Campo di Marte was initially utilised as an Italian training ground dating back to the early 1800s. It was not until the mid-1990s that Florentines converted the military ground into a modern sports capital.
