About Cedar City

Known as “Festival City USA”, Cedar City lures you in with its Shakespeare productions and proximity to national parks and monuments. Its mountain and desert landscapes provide outdoor activities throughout the seasons, while art galleries, theatre productions and museums offer a dose of culture.

Things to do in Cedar City

Museums in Cedar City showcase the city’s roots, such as the Frontier Homestead State Park Museum, which focuses on pioneer days and later industrialisation. You’ll find horse-drawn wagons, a sawmill, historic structures and a native Paiute camp. Southern Utah Museum of Art plays host to visiting and permanent collections from international and Utah artists.

Looking for an outdoor adventure? Hike the “C” Overlook and Trail to the viewing area for hypnotic views of the mountains and valleys. Dixie National Park features dramatic cliffs at Cedar Breaks National Monument, while the park’s Star Parties programmes let you view constellations through telescopes. Depending on the season, you can also go hiking, snowshoeing and wildflower viewing.

Back in town, hit the links at Cedar Ridge Golf Course in the shadow of Cedar Mountain. Afterwards, visit Southern Utah University to scale the Rock Climbing Wall and enjoy eateries, art galleries and street performers in the University District.

Take a day trip outside Cedar City to enjoy skiing at Brian Head Ski Resort, boating at Sand Hollow Reservoir and fishing for largemouth bass at Quail Creek State Park. You can also reel in brook and splake trout at Navajo Lake.
