Where to stay in Chemor

About Chemor

Set in a lush agricultural valley between two tropical mountain ranges, Chemor offers a laid-back ambience. Wild and undeveloped, Chemor caters to those looking for off-the-beaten-track adventure and seeking to scale the famous Gunung Yong Belar mountain.

Things to do

Travel south to nearby Perak and venture into five hectares of tropical limestone caverns surrounded by ornate Buddhist temples. The hollowed bases of these lush, overgrown rocks are recognised around the world and offer a truly unique backdrop. Ke kLok Temple’s massive cave is filled with detailed sculptures of Buddhist deities, while Sam Poh Tong’s turtle pond is a peaceful place to unwind.

Cold mountain air and crystal-clear tropical water make Chepor Stream a favourite outdoor excursion. Drive to the trail entrance or walk the kilometre-long road and stop at a variety of outdoor stalls selling food and trinkets. Splash around in the shallow waters, or hike further into the green forest.

Head east to watch the sunrise at Gunung Yong Belar, one of Malaysia’s most stunning natural formations. Rising over 2,000 metres high, this narrow mountain peak path features scenic outlooks and temples carved directly into the mountain.

Getting around

Buses and trains depart daily from Kuala Lumpur, less than three hours to the south. Flights arrive at nearby Lapangan Airport in Perak. Within Chemor, local buses provide connections to neighbouring villages, though private transportation is recommended for travelling further afield.
