About Dwārka

Dwarka is an ancient city dotted with Hindu temples and pilgrimage sites. Dwarka also boasts sun-drenched Arabian Sea beaches, enthralling snorkelling and wildlife-rich nature sanctuaries.

Things to do in Dwārka

Dwarkadhish Temple has been welcoming pilgrims for over 2,000 years. Hindus believe it was built by Vajranabh, the great grandson of Krishna. The temple is anchored by a tiered shrine and a gleaming black marble statue of Krishna. Entrance is via a stone staircase that leads up to a beautifully carved gate.

Get a fix of sunshine at Dwarka Beach, which is fringed by golden sand and turquoise water. Ferries and fishing boats whisk passengers to Bet Dwarka, an offshore island dotted with historic temples. The snorkelling is fantastic, with the chance to spot dolphins, porpoises and sea turtles. Nearby Dwarka Lighthouse offers sweeping views over the Arabian Sea.

Don't forget your binoculars if you're heading to Gaga Wildlife Sanctuary. It's a haven for migratory birds, including pelicans, spot-billed ducks and flamingos. The sanctuary is also home to endangered species like the Indian wolf, golden jackals and wildcats.

Dwarka serves up tasty Gujarat cuisine, which is largely vegetarian thanks to the state's Jain influence. Don't leave without devouring Gujarati Kadhi, a yogurt-based dish that blends sweet, spicy and savoury flavours.

Getting around Dwārka

Dwarka is best explored on foot, with most temples within walking distance. The city is well-serviced by local buses, taxis and auto rickshaws. Trains depart from the Dwarka Railway Station, two kilometres away.
