About Eungam-dong

Located near the southern entrance to Bukhansan National Park, Eungam-dong is a neighbourhood in Seoul’s north-west. It’s home to schools and eateries that serve its residential homes and lies on the edge of a canal that connects south to the recreational spaces of World Cup Park.

Things to do in Eungam-dong

Eungam-dong makes an ideal base for exploring Bukhansan National Park, which encompasses forest-clad mountains, granite peaks and temples. In addition to being home to the Bukhansanseong Fortress with its 9.5-kilometre-long defensive wall, the park is popular with hikers. Climb to the 837-metre-high peak of Baegundae for sweeping views across the park or challenge yourself on the rock climbing routes of Dobongsan.

Dating back to the middle Joseon period, the Bukhansanseong Fortress is a destination in itself and has played a significant role in protecting the Korean capital throughout the centuries. You can walk the length of the fortress walls before visiting the Samgaksan Doseonsa Temple, which was established 1,100 years ago. See manuscripts written by Cheongdamdaejongsa and make a wish in the pond of Cheonbuljeon Hall, then pay your respects at the sacred tree brought from India by a Buddhist priest.

To the south of Eungam-dong is World Cup Park, a riverside green space created in the lead-up to the 2002 FIFA World Cup. After spotting wild deer and raccoons in Noeul Park and visiting the World Cup Park Museum, you can soak up the views across Seoul from the highest point of Haneul Park.

Getting around Eungam-dong

Eungam-dong is around 30 minutes by train from Seoul Station and just over an hour from Incheon International Airport. Trains travelling along the Seoul Subway Line 6 connect to Eungam Station and buses travel throughout the neighbourhood.
