Things to do in Hyderābād

Stretching for almost five kilometres, it’s easy to spend hours getting lost in Shahi Bazaar. Inside you’ll find stalls selling glass bangles, gold jewellery, silk scarves and other treasures. In the produce section, you can stock up on brightly coloured fruits and vegetables from across Pakistan. At the end of the bazaar is the handsome Navalrai Market Clock Tower famous for its beautifully carved woodwork.

With two royal fortresses to explore, Hyderabad is an exciting destination for history buffs. Start with Hyderabad Fort, an ancient 17th-century stronghold that towers over the city centre. Topped by soaring domes, the Tomb of the Mian Ghulam Nabi Kalhoro recalls the legacy of the Kalhora dynasty.

At the Sindh Museum, you can discover the rich history and heritage of the region. Exhibits spotlight the ancient civilisations that once lived in the Sindh and Indus Valleys. There’s also a fantastic collection of local art on display.

Hyderabad serves some of the best food in Pakistan and is a fantastic place to sample local delicacies. Save your appetite for chargrilled flatbread, lemon chicken marinated and spices and fragrant “kabuli palaw” rice loaded with raisins, carrots and lamb. For dessert, indulge in desserts made with saffron, cardamon, dates and nuts.

Getting around Hyderābād

Taxis and rickshaws are often the fastest, easiest and most comfortable way to get around Hyderabad. Air-conditioned buses and minivans are a popular way to travel to other cities. Hyderabad Airport is a 25-minute drive from the city centre.
