Where to stay in Karabuk Province

About Karabuk Province

Karabuk Province showcases rich history in its Ottoman towns, nomadic villages and Byzantine aqueduct. It's set high in northern Anatolia and cradles some of Turkey's most dramatic landscapes, including a lush canyon and subterranean cave network.

Things to do

Safranbolu highlights Turkey's illustrious past with its cobblestone streets and grand Ottoman architecture. The historic Cinci Han inn was once used to house merchants travelling between Europe and the Orient. Climb up to the rooftop terrace for sweeping town views.

With shady picnic spots, scenic walking trails and a tumbling waterfall, the Canyon of Tokatli is a favourite with local families. The wooden boardwalks offer views of the Incekaya Aqueduct, which has been channelling water since Byzantine times. Don't miss Crystal Terrace, a glass-bottomed lookout clinging to the cliffsides.

Yoruk Koyu, also known as "Nomad Village", is dotted with beautiful Ottoman houses like Sipahioglu Konagi Gezi Evi, which is filled with Turkish antiques. You can also tour Ipekci Sokagi, a 300-year-old laundry complex studded with stone fireplaces once used to heat water.

The Bulak Mencilis Caves are nestled in the hillsides of Gurleyik and were once home to troglodytes. A metal walkway winds past shimmering stalactites and stalagmites. Admire the shimmering subterranean river and a pair of glassy lakes, then visit the mineral-rich waters to help relieve ailments like asthma and bronchitis.

Getting around

Karabuk Province can be navigated by local buses and taxis, while towns like Safranbolu and Yoruk Koyu are easy to explore on foot. Long-distance buses run from Safranbolu to Ankara in three hours and to Istanbul in six hours.
