About Korčula

Korcula is a postcard-perfect island marooned in the Adriatic Sea. Bask on beaches fringed by gleaming white-pebble sand and venture inland to explore rolling vineyards, olive groves and pine forests. Korcula Town is a gateway to the island. Get lost in the storybook historic centre and enjoy unique cultural experiences like folk music concerts and sword dancing shows.

Things to do in Korčula

Explore a maze of cobbled streets and steep stone staircases in Korcula Town. Often called a mini Dubrovnik, the town cascades down a hillside to the Adriatic Sea. The breezy waterfront is lined with cafes and restaurants where you can sip cocktails and enjoy classic Dalmatian dishes like octopus salad and marinated shrimp.

St Mark’s Cathedral towers over the main square and welcomes you with a magnificent limestone façade. Admire the Gothic-Renaissance exterior before stepping into the cavernous nave. Soaring pillars support the 30-metre-high ceiling. Look for mermaids, elephants and other motifs carved into the limestone by celebrated 15th-century stonemason, Marko Andrijić.

Spend the day on Proizd, a tiny island off the western tip of Korcula. Sunbathe on the pebble sand and swim in the turquoise water. Boat tours and water taxis are a great way to visit neighbouring islands like Badija and Vrnik. Both are a stone’s throw from Korcula Town and feature beautiful beaches and laid-back taverns.

Guided wine tours are a great introduction to the island’s viticultural scene. Learn about how indigenous grapes like pošip and grk are used to make some of the best white wine in Croatia. You’ll find some of the most beautiful wineries clustered around the village of Lumbarda. Bike tours are a fun way to visit the island’s vineyards and burn calories!
