About Minot

Serving as an important trade hub, Minot is a riverside city in North Dakota that has been dubbed the “Magic City” due to its phenomenal growth. It was founded in 1886 with the construction of the Great Northern Railway and is renowned for being home to the Minot Air Force Base.

Things to do in Minot

Established in 1988, the Scandinavian Heritage Park features buildings and monuments dedicated to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. In addition to a replica of the Gol Stave Church and a 200-year-old Norwegian house, there are statues dedicated to Hans Christian Andersen and Leif Eirikssen. Be sure to admire the working Danish windmill and the authentic Finnish sauna.

Near Minot International Airport is the Dakota Territory Air Museum, which houses an impressive collection of military and civilian aircraft. Get up close to a full-scale replica of the Wright Flyer and learn about the legacy of Oswin H. Elker, a North Dakota native who served with the Flying Tigers during World War II. Each spring, several warbirds are flown from Texas to be displayed at the Dakota Territory Air Museum for the summer.

Art enthusiasts can visit the Taube Museum of Art, which occupies the 1923-built Union National Bank Building. It showcases works by local and regional artists, with several pieces for sale in the gift shop. Just a stone’s throw away is the Railroad Museum of Minot where historic engines and railway memorabilia are exhibited.

Minot International Airport is a five-minute drive from the city centre and has flights to destinations across the United States.
