Where to stay near Mürren

About Mürren

Nestled at the foot of the Schilthorn, Mürren is a charming Swiss mountain village featured in the 1969 James Bond movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. It’s a popular skiing destination in the winter months and offers spectacular hiking in summer, accompanied by impressive views of the surrounding Eiger, Jungfrau and Mönch mountains.

Things to do

Stretch your legs along one of the trails that hug the slopes of Allmendhubel or traverse the ladders and stairs that link Mürren with Gimmelwald along the Via Ferrata. Mountain bikes can be rented in Lauterbrunnen and cycled from Grütschalp to Mürren before making the spectacular descent to Grimmelwald to visit the glacier-fed Trummelbach Falls.

If you’re visiting in the winter months, you can take advantage of Mürren’s 52 kilometres of ski runs or explore some of the region’s off-piste terrain. The village is also home to a large ice skating rink where curling competitions are held, with the rink transformed into a mini-golf course during the summer months.

For a meal with a view, ride the cable car from Mürren to the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant, which is perched atop the 2,970-metre-high summit of the Schilthorn. In addition to its stunning panoramas of Mont Blanc, the Piz Gloria is also home to a James Bond exhibition where memorabilia and film clips from “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” are displayed.

Getting around

Hourly trains make the journey from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen, from where a cable car ascends to Grustschalp. From here, a narrow-gauge railway connects along the ridge to Mürren while offering spectacular views across the valley below. A series of cable cars connect to Gimmelwald and Stechelberg, as well as to the summit of the Schilthorn. Mürren is a car-free village and only accessible on foot.
