About Pfronten

Pfronten is an adventure-fuelled village in the Allgäu Alps. It’s perched more than 850 metres above sea level and is a fantastic base to hike, mountain bike, ski and enjoy the postcard-perfect Bavarian landscapes. Visit a crumbling castle built by King Ludwig II, sip hot chocolate at charming alpine huts and ride a gondola to the summit of a snow-capped mountain.

Things to do in Pfronten

Despite falling into ruins, Falkenstein Castle is one of the most beautiful strongholds in Germany. The castle captivated King Ludwig II and sits on a rocky outcrop more than 1,200 metres above sea level. While his vision for a fairy-tale castle never came to fruition, the views are breathtaking. On a clear day, you can see the magical Neuschwanstein Castle in the distance.

Hiking trails wind through the Allgäu Alps and Tyrolean Mountains. The trails are a great way to access the flower-strewn alpine meadows and picturesque lakes that dot the region. After a day of hiking, return to the village for dinner and drinks in a sun-drenched beer garden.

A gondola whisks you to the summit of Breitenberg, another enormous mountain. Stretch your legs on high-altitude trails and enjoy lunch at a postcard-perfect alpine hut. Tandem paragliding experiences unlock a bird’s eye view over the mountains and valley.

Pfronten morphs into a snow-dusted wonderland in the winter months. Speed along groomed downhill slopes and explore scenic cross-country ski trails. Choose from three ski areas, including family-friendly Pfronten-Röfleuten. Activities like tobogganing and sledding are great for kids, while ski schools are a fun way to brush up on your skills.
