Port Clinton is known as the "Walleye Capital of the World", which makes it a bucket-list destination for anglers. Charter your own boat or sign up for a guided fishing trip. If you don't want to catch your own dinner, head to the New Sandusky Fish Co for walleye sandwiches served with crispy French fries.

The Edison Birthplace Museum celebrates the legacy of Port Clinton's most famous son. It's housed in the small brick home where Edison once lived and is filled with exhibits showcasing his best-known inventions, including the incandescent electric light bulb and phonograph.

Lake Erie is studded with pristine offshore islands, some designated as state parks. The sandy beach on the northern side of Kelleys Islands State Park is a great place to soak up the sunshine, explore scenic walking trails and check out ancient glacial grooves carved into the limestone 18,000 years ago.

Enjoy thrills, spills and screams at Cedar Point, one of the world's top-tier amusement parks. It features an impressive 17 heart-racing roller coasters, including the white-knuckle Top Thrill Dragster, one of the tallest and fastest on the planet. You can also ride GateKeeper, the world's highest inversion roller coaster.

Getting around

Downtown Port Clinton is easy to get around on foot, while ferries run to offshore islands and other shoreline towns. You can arrive by car or boat, while Erie Ottawa International Airport is a 10-minute drive away and Cleveland is a 1.5-hour drive east.
