About Požarevac

Pozarevac is a historic city set at the junction of the Danube, Mlava and Velika Rivers. Leafy parks, tree-lined streets and grand buildings give the city an elegant feel. Visit a museum dedicated to a famous Serbian modernist painter, tour a world-class archaeological site and relax in a hillside park.

Things to do in Požarevac

Learn about the rich cultural and historical heritage of Pozarevac at the National Museum. It’s one of the oldest in Serbia and showcases artefacts found at the nearby Viminacium archaeological site. Pozarevac is also an ideal base to visit the Viminacium archaeological site in person. You can see ceramics, jewellery, weapons and an enormous mammoth skeleton.

The former home of local painter Milena Pavlović Barili has been reimagined as an art museum. Inside, you can learn about the life and legacy of the famous artist, who led the Serbian modernism movement. The walls are decorated with original paintings by Milena Pavlović Barili.

Gradski Park is an oasis of mature trees, green grass and flower-filled garden beds. In the centre of the park is a monument to Prince Milos Obrenovic, who led the Second Serbian Uprising. Čačalica Memorial Park is another green space where you can escape the city. The park is set on a hillside and features rolling lawns and a thick forest. Enjoy a picnic on the grass and pay your respects at memorials dedicated to soldiers who lost their lives in World War II.

Pozarevac is dotted with cosy taverns where you can enjoy traditional Serbian cuisine. Try local dishes like “sarma” ground pork wrapped in cabbage leaves, “gibanica” cheese pies made with flaky pastry and “ajvar” red pepper relish slathered on fresh-baked bread.
