About Ramberg

Hugging the north shore of Flakstadøya, Ramberg is a picturesque coastal town in the Lofoten Islands. It’s home to one of the archipelago’s most stunning stretches of sand (where Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon has been spotted kiting) and is close to a beautiful red church with historic ties to Russia.

Soak up the mountainous views from the sands of Rambergstranda, a crescent-shaped beach that is one of the Lofoten Islands’ most beautiful. A walkway made from wooden sleepers connects from the parking lot to the sand while the Rambergstranda Red Shed has become a popular photographic location.

Also painted red is the iconic Flakstad Church, which was constructed in the 18th century using Russian timber that was exchanged for locally caught fish. Its steeple and onion dome are inspired by Russian Orthodox churches, making it unique in Norway. Step inside the Flakstad Church to see its 13th-century limestone baptismal font and ornate chandeliers.

Getting there

Ramberg is around 30 minutes’ drive from Moskenes, where ferries arrive from Bodø on the mainland. Bodø Airport has flights to destinations across Norway. Buses travel around the Lofoten Islands while renting a car gives you greater freedom to explore the region.
