Things to do in Rishon LeZion
Uncover Rishon LeZion’s enthralling past at the Old City, which has the 19th-century Great Synagogue and other buildings dating back to the city’s first days. Enter the open-air Rishon LeZion Museum to tour the city’s pioneer past with ancient artefacts, such as the Colony Bell and Edmond James de Rothschild’s tableware.
Families can’t get enough of Superland, a 38-hectare amusement park with three roller coasters, a revolving swing, bungee jumping and more entertainment. You can also take the kids along for a day at Rishon LeZion Beach, which is blessed with cool Mediterranean water and soft golden sand.
Memorial Park is closer to the city centre and provides grassy areas for games and playgrounds for the kids. Before you leave the park, make sure you visit Hai Kef, a zoo with kangaroos, giraffes and monkeys, along with a petting zoo with goats, rabbits and lambs. If you’re interested in shopping, head to HaZahav Mall, one of the biggest in Israel.
Time your visit to Rishon LeZion with one of the annual festivals, such as the Rishon LeZion Wine Festival, which showcases the region’s finest wines. An easy 25-minute drive will get you to Tel Aviv, where you can sip coffee and dine on delicious Israeli fare with the Mediterranean on one side and Heritage-listed Bauhaus-era architecture on the other.
Getting around Rishon LeZion
Many of Rishon LeZion’s attraction are clustered around the city centre, making it easy to walk from one to the next. Buses from Tel Aviv service the city and you can also catch taxis to outer destinations.
