Perched on the eastern shore of Inner-Vikna, Rørvik is a charming port village in Norway’s picturesque Vikna archipelago. It’s renowned for its traditional wooden architecture and annual cod festival, as well as (unverified) sightings of sea serpents measuring up to 200 metres in length.
Begin your visit at the Kystmuseet Rørvik, a striking architectural landmark designed by the Icelandic-born Guðmundur Jónsson. In addition to exhibits exploring the region’s cultural heritage, it also hosts theatrical performances and storytelling events throughout the year. Also managed by the Kystmuseet Rørvik is the Vågsenget farm and the traditional fishing village of Sør-Gjæslingan, as well as the Berggården trading house.
Stroll the streets of Rørvik, then rent a boat or kayak to explore the Vikna archipelago, which is dotted with tranquil coves and historic lighthouses. It’s also one of the largest spawning areas for cod south of Lofoten, with freshly caught seafood served at local restaurants.
Getting there
Rørvik Airport is a 10-minute drive from the village centre and has flights to destinations across Norway. The Hurtigruten ship connects Rørvik to towns and cities along the coastline while daily speedboats travel to the regional centre of Namsos.
