About Secunderabad

Secunderabad sits across the shores of Hussain Sagar Lake, offering boating, trekking and exploring waterfalls and mangrove forests. Once a military garrison, life in the city now centres around the bustling lake area and traditional bazaars and markets.

Things to do

Hussain Sagar Lake thrives in all seasons with water skiing, boating, kayaking and parasailing. It’s the perfect place for a sunset picnic when vibrant colours play on the white-marble statue of Buddha sitting in the lake centre.

Just a short drive to the delta region of Konaseema lands you in the middle of vast coconut groves and a towering lighthouse ringed by mangrove forests. It borders the Godavari River and Bay of Bengal, with opportunities for rafting and fishing.

Golconda Fort hearkens to centuries past, perched on a hill at 122 metres high. You can tour this archaeological treasure built by Krakatoa kings in the 13th century and hear tales about the world-renowned Kohinoor diamond unearthed on the site. Head over to Lepakshi village to view Vijayanagara architecture in Veerabhadra Temple and to see the Lepakshi Nandi with a statue of Shiva’s bull.

Looking for modern shopping? The Patny Centre business district is home to shopping outlets and malls, including Kalamandir and Chandana Brothers. Head down Mahatma Gandhi Road to buy pottery, handiworks and antiques. At the General Bazaar, you’ll find gold and silver jewellery and the well-known Zari and Kanchi saree shops.

Getting around

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is a 34-kilometre drive from Secunderabad. Metro rail and buses connect the city and major attractions. Rideshares, taxis, auto rickshaws and motorbikes are also available.
