About Songrim-dong

Situated in the north-east of Incheon, Songrim-dong is a residential suburb on the outskirts of Seoul. It’s on the doorstep of South Korea’s main international airport and home to a flower-filled neighbourhood park, as well as a museum dedicated to the low-income communities that once occupied the nearby hills.

Things to do in Songrim-dong

On the edge of Songrim-dong is Songhyeon Neighbourhood Park, which is renowned for its floral garden designed to appear like the petals of a single flower. You can stretch your legs along the riverside trail and admire the small waterfall or challenge your family and friends to a game on the basketball court.

Also within Songhyeon Neighbourhood Park is the Sudoguksan Museum of Housing & Living, which illustrates life for locals in Incheon’s “daldongne” hillside areas. As you explore the reproduced barbershop and grocery store, learn about daily life in these “moon villages” during the 1960s and 1970s while hearing about the close-knit nature of the communities.

You can experience the hustle and bustle of modern life at the Incheon Fish Market, which features displays piled high with blue crabs, yellow corvina and salted fish. It’s located near Yeonan Pier, which serves as a launching point for fishing charters in the Yellow Sea and boat cruises to explore the beach-fringed islands that lie just offshore.

Songrim-dong is around an hour by train from the centre of Seoul and around 1.5 hours from Incheon International Airport.
