About Tău Bistra

Overlooking a reservoir of the same name, Tău Bistra is a small village on the border between Alba and Sibiu counties in central Romania. It lies on the route that connects the city of Sebeș with Obârşia, a riverfront town backed by the dramatic peak of Parîngul Mare.

Spend your days relaxing on the shores of Tău Bistra Lake, a man-made reservoir that lies on a tributary of the Sebeș River. Marvel at the impressive dam wall and browse the souvenir stalls nearby or rent a boat to explore the rocky, forested shores at your leisure.

A short drive south of Tău Bistra will take you to Oasa Lake, which is watched over by a wooden-built Orthodox monastery. Nestled in the foothills of the Sureanu Mountains, it is beautifully decorated with frescoes by Liviu Dumbravă and houses relics of St. Pantelimon and St. Joseph the New of Partos.

Getting there

Tău Bistra is around 1.5 hours’ drive from Sibiu and Sibiu International Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting to Tău Bistra and exploring the surrounding region. The village is small enough to explore on foot.
