About Warnemünde

Fringed by a long sandy beach, Warnemunde is a lively port town set on the Baltic Sea. The town is a popular stop on cruise ship itineraries and charms visitors with its colourful buildings and a breezy seafront promenade. Colourful beach umbrellas dot the beach, where you can top up your tan and cool off in the water.

Shops, bars and bistros line Alte Strom, a picturesque canal dotted with fishing boats. In summer, the sun-drenched outdoor patios are perfect for enjoying seafood platters and ice-cold glasses of German pilsner. Fried fish sandwiches, or “fischbrotchen” as they’re called by locals, are a local specialty.

Edvard Munch Haus celebrates the legacy of one of Germany’s most famous expressionist painters. Tours take you behind the scenes of the historic fishing house, which was built in the 17th century and has been reimagined as an art museum. Warnemunde Lighthouse towers over the entrance to the harbour and has been guiding ships to safety since the late 1800s.
