About Wyomissing

Originally inhabited by the Lenape people, Wyomissing is now one of the most populous boroughs in Pennsylvania’s Berks County. It’s a thriving commercial hub on the doorstep of Reading, with a fascinating museum, a historic cultural centre and creek-side recreational spaces among its attractions.

Things to do in Wyomissing

Delve into the local history at the Reading Public Museum, which houses exhibits related to art, science and ancient civilisations. Get up close to a mummy from Egypt’s Ptolemaic period and a 16th-century Maximilian-style suit of armour, then admire the works by Dale Chihuly and Abraham Hankins that are on display. The museum also operates a 10-hectare arboretum and the Neag Planetarium where astronomical-themed shows take place.

In neighbouring Reading is the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, a community and cultural hub that occupies the National Register of Historic Places-listed Wilson Goggle Factory. Check to see what's happening in the exhibition galleries, shop for handicrafts by local artists or attend one of the workshops in ceramics, printmaking and woodworking that are regularly held here.

North of Wyomissing is the Gring’s Mill Recreation Area, where you'll find tennis courts, a softball field and an exercise course. Located alongside Penn State Berks Campus, it’s a popular recreational destination for locals and hosts concerts during the summer months in its amphitheatre. Coincide your visit with December to witness the park’s impressive holiday illuminations.
