Where to stay in Yorkton

About Yorkton

Cradling a vibrant art and cultural scene, Yorkton is a relaxed prairie town surrounded by golden plains and wheat fields. You can visit a local history museum, discover the town's Eastern European heritage and attend one of Canada's top independent film festivals.

Things to do

The Western Development Museum offers a fascinating introduction to Yorkton's Eastern European roots. It recalls the stories of the town's immigrant population through photographs, artefacts and life-size exhibits. Don't miss the vintage clay oven, an original piece of farm memorabilia in the museum's outdoor compound.

Every year Canada's top filmmakers compete for the Golden Sheaf Awards at the prestigious Yorkton Film Festival. If you're not in town for the event, you can still enjoy a colourful programme of year-round screenings featuring everything from First Nations documentaries to coming-of-age dramas.

Topped by a 16-metre-high dome, St Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church is a Yorkton landmark. The interior was inspired by Ukrainian and Roman art and has been beautifully painted with over 150 angels and cherubs. You're welcome to wander around the church or stay for one of the services.

Yorkton offers easy access to four provincial parks, including Good Spirit Lake where you'll find one of Canada's top inland beaches. In addition to relaxing on the sand, you can cool off in the water, fish pike or work up a sweat on the Trans Canada Trail.

Getting around

The Yorkton town centre is easy to get around on foot, while a rental car is the best way to explore south-east Saskatchewan. The town is also serviced regional STC bus services. Yorkton is 300 kilometres south-east of Saskatoon and 450 kilometres north-west of Winnipeg.
