About Bad Salzuflen

Located at the junction of the Salze and Werre rivers, Bad Salzuflen is a centuries-old town and thermal spa in North Rhine-Westphalia. It flourished with the discovery of salt and was fortified in the Middle Ages, with its oldest buildings dating back to the 16th century.

Things to do in Bad Salzuflen

Spend an afternoon strolling through the historic heart of Bad Salzuflen, which is clustered with beautifully restored half-timbered buildings. Stretching north of the town centre is the picturesque Kurpark, where you’ll find mature trees, seasonal floral displays and a concert shell where summer concerts take place. Don’t miss the topiary maze of Hortus Vitalis on the banks of the centrepiece lake.

Occupying the historic site of the Heerser Mühle is an environmental centre that explores the history of nature conservation in the area. It is set across 30 hectares of lovingly tended gardens, with terraced rocks, picturesque ponds and sculptural artworks. You can coincide your visit with a performance on the natural stone stage or let the kids run loose in the large play area.

A short drive south of Bad Salzuflen is the Ziegelei Lage, an early-20th-century brickyard that forms part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage. It has been transformed into a museum detailing how bricks were manufactured in times gone by before being cured in a circular kiln. Step inside a former workers’ house to admire the vintage tools on display or try your hand at making bricks using traditional techniques.
