About Burton upon Trent

Established around a centuries-old abbey, Burton is a historic town in Staffordshire that is home to what was once the biggest brewery in the world. It was the site of significant battles in the 14th and 16th centuries before evolving into a bustling market town.

One of Burton upon Trent’s most popular attractions is the National Brewery Centre, which is located adjacent to the historic Bass Brewery. It explores the heritage of British brewing and its changing techniques, with historic vehicles and a collection of shire horses on display. Join a guided tour to learn about the Bass family and shop for unique brews in the Beer Boutique.

On the north side of Burton upon Trent is the Claymills Pumping Station, a Victorian industrial landmark designed by James Mansergh that has been beautifully restored. On guided tours, you can learn about its construction in 1885 while getting up close to its high-pressure cylinders, engines and Lancashire boilers.
