About Dunmore East

Once home to an Iron Age fort, Dunmore East is an attractive Irish fishing village in County Waterford. In the 18th century, around 50 fishing boats worked from Dunmore East and were launched from the slip at Lawlor’s Beach. Fishing still attracts visitors to Dunmore East today, as does its coastal walks, golf club and sailing facilities.

In the summer months, you can relax on the wide sands of Lawlor’s Beach or check to see what’s happening at the Waterford Harbour Sailing Club. Perched on a clifftop overlooking the beach is the Dunmore East Golf Club, which offers panoramic views across the Celtic Sea from its nine holes.

If you want to stretch your legs, you can follow the Dummore East Cliff Walk, which connects south-west to picturesque Portally before continuing on to the 60-metre-long Rathmoylan Sea Cave. Keen anglers can join the team at Dunmore East Angling Charters to lure cod, whiting and pollack.

Getting there

Dunmore East is around 20 minutes’ drive from Waterford and two hours from Cork while Dublin Airport is just over two hours away. Buses connect to Dunmore East from Waterford and the village is small enough to explore on foot.
