Where to stay in Ebeltoft

About Ebeltoft

Centred around a charming old town that’s filled with half-timbered houses, Ebeltoft is a lively port on Jutland’s Djursland Peninsula. It’s a popular summer tourist hub, featuring family-friendly beaches, a golf course and a marina. It’s also surrounded by the natural landscapes of Mols Bjerge National Park.

Things to do

Spend an afternoon strolling the cobblestone streets of Adelgade, which is lined with pastel-coloured boutiques, restaurants and cafes. At one end stands the half-timbered Ebeltoft City Hall that dates back to the late 18th century and is a popular destination for wedding photos.

Ebeltoft is home to the largest wooden ship in the world, the battle frigate “Jylland”, which measures 71 metres from bow to stern. It’s been lovingly restored and is now exhibited in a large marine centre alongside several other historic vessels. Step aboard to learn about the frigate’s role in the 1864 battle against the Austro-Prussian fleet before being used as a cruise vessel for royal parties travelling between Denmark and Greenland.

An architectural highlight of Ebeltoft is the strikingly modern Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, which houses rotating exhibitions of contemporary glass in its light-filled gallery spaces. After admiring the works by artists from around the globe, you can watch skilled glass-blowers in action in the glass-blowing studio. Shop for handmade gifts in the Glass Shop or enjoy waterfront views from the Restaurant Glas.

Getting around

Ebeltoft is around 45 minutes’ drive from Aarhus and 20 minutes from Aarhus Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe. Regular ferries connect to Sjællands Odde on the north-west coast of Zealand, from where there are buses travelling to and from Copenhagen. The centre of Ebeltoft is compact enough to explore on foot.
