Sprawling across more than 200 hectares, Prospect Park is a popular greenscape that forms part of the Brooklyn-Queens Greenway. It’s been listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to Heritage-listed buildings, recreational facilities and the Prospect Park Zoo.
Mingle with the locals picnicking on the expansive Long Meadow or stroll along the tree-lined avenue of West Drive, then watch ducks at the picturesque Prospect Park Lake. Marvel at the graceful arches of the 1905 Boathouse that now serves as the nature-themed Audubon Center or go roller skating on LeFrak Center’s lakeside rink.
Travelling with kids? They’ll love riding the historic Prospect Park Carousel or getting up close to alpacas and California sea lions at Prospect Park Zoo. Prospect Park is also home to the Dutch colonial Lefferts Historic House, where you can discover what life was like in Brooklyn during the 19th century.
Getting around Prospect Park
Prospect Park is easily accessed from the Prospect Park metro station on its eastern side or the 15 Street metro station to the west. It’s around 30 minutes by train from Midtown Manhattan or 35 minutes’ drive from John F. Kennedy International Airport.
