One of Brooklyn’s most cosmopolitan neighbourhoods, Sunset Park centres around a leafy green space famed for its Manhattan views. It’s home to what has been nicknamed “Brooklyn’s Chinatown” and the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the borough’s largest church.
Spend an afternoon in the green oasis of Sunset Park enjoying the sporting fields, sand volleyball courts and walking trails. If you’re visiting in summer, take a dip in the Art Deco swimming complex that first opened to the public in 1936.
Sunset Park is noted for its Renaissance Revival and Romanesque architecture, with various Heritage-listed buildings. Don’t miss a visit to St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, whose towering white spire dominates the neighborhood's skyline.
For some of the most authentic Chinese cuisine in New York, head to the Chinatown that sprawls along Eighth Avenue. Noodle shops, dim sum restaurants and traditional bakeries line the street with a focus on Cantonese and Fujianese cuisine.
Getting there
Both subways and buses connect Sunset Park to Manhattan and it’s served by the South Brooklyn and Rockaway ferries. A unique way of getting around Sunset Park is by private minibuses known as “dollar vans”.
