About Seongdong-gu

Located on the north bank of the Han River, Seongdong-gu is a bustling district east of central Seoul. It comprises 20 dongs (neighbourhoods) and the wildlife-filled woodlands of the Seoul Forest, as well as one of Seoul’s hippest new cultural and shopping complexes.

Things to do in Seongdong-gu

Dominating Seongdong-gu is the Seoul Forest, a massive green space home to thousands of trees and more than 100 different animals. Enjoy the fragrant roses in the Ecologic Park and get up close to insects in the Wetlands Ecological Field, then stretch your legs along the network of walking trails. Live performances are regularly held in the Cultural Art Park.

Overlooking the Cheonggyecheon Stream is Cheonggyecheon Museum, which details the waterway’s history and restoration during the early 2000s. As you browse the old photos, models and multimedia displays, learn about the Cheonggyecheon Stream’s importance during the Joseon Dynasty and hear how it was later concreted over to build an elevated highway. Across the road from the museum is a recreated village illustrating the homes and shops that were built along the stream’s banks following the Korean War.

For a unique shopping experience, head to Under Stand Avenue, which comprises more than 100 container stores and creative cultural spaces. Coincide your visit with a performance at the outdoor stage or attend one of the community workshops led by social entrepreneurs. In addition to retail stores showcasing local brands, there are plenty of excellent eateries.
