About Al Marwah

Sprawling on the southern edge of King Abdulaziz International Airport, Al Marwah is a largely residential suburb north of Jeddah. It is dotted with mosques, malls and large-scale supermarkets that cater well to Jeddah’s expat population. Al Marwah is a convenient base for exploring the sights of Jeddah and offers easy access to the desert communities of Makkah Province.

Things to do in Al Marwah

In the heart of Al Marwah is the Manuel Market - Mandarin Mall, a huge supermarket stocked with hard-to-find goods that is renowned for its delicious bakery treats. In its immediate surrounds are a diverse choice of locally inspired eateries and international fast-food chains, such as Krispy Kreme, KFC and Domino’s Pizza.

Al Marwah makes an ideal base for visiting the Al-Rahmah Mosque, a turquoise-domed structure that appears as though it is floating on the Red Sea. Constructed in 1985, it fuses classical Islamic design traditions with contemporary elements and is supported by a series of white stilts. Visit between prayer times to admire the pillared interior and stained glass windows while enjoying the mosque’s waterfront views.

A short drive north of Al-Rahmah Mosque is La Plage, a private beach that lies where the Obhur Creek meets the Red Sea. In addition to relaxing beneath a beach umbrella and refreshing with a swim, you can grab a bite to eat at the on-site cafe. La Plage is also a popular snorkelling and diving destination, with an abundance of marine life to discover.

Getting around Al Marwah
