About Bondi Junction

Sitting to Sydney’s east, Bondi Junction blends cosmopolitan chic with beachside living. It may be one of the city’s biggest shopping districts, but it still oozes Sydney’s famously laid back attitude. It boasts a fantastic bar scene, as well as a colourful string of cafes and restaurants.

While Bondi Junction was originally a transport hub for trains and buses, today it serves up an attitude all of its own. For shopaholics, a trip to the eastern suburbs isn’t complete without hitting up the sprawling Westfield Bondi Junction mall. Home to the likes of Gucci and Prada, the upmarket mall is a shopper’s paradise.

Just six kilometres from the CBD, Bondi Junction offers fantastic access to the city. Oxford Street is the beating heart of Bondi Junction, which transforms into a produce and artisans market on certain days of the week. By bus, Bondi Junction is a short 25-minute ride from Central Station, Circular Quay and the Opera House. The airport is a 25-minute drive away, with Bondi Beach just a 15-minute stroll to the east.

Today, Bondi’s main streets and thoroughfares are lined with gleaming buildings and office blocks. But despite modernisation, it hasn’t lost sight of its roots. The neighbourhood draws its name from the Aboriginal word Bondi, which means “water breaking over rocks”. It is a reference to the famous Bondi Beach, which remains a sacred site for Aboriginal Australians.
