The sandy strips and clear ocean waters take centre stage at Ettalong Beach. Rental stands offer stand-up paddleboards, kayaks and body boards, as well as cruiser bikes to traverse the waterfront. You can even rent metal detectors to find hidden treasures.

Along the shoreline, stop for an espresso or cocktail at The BOX on the Water and let the little ones run loose on the beachfront playground. Head over to Strom Loop for beginner and cycling trails through Bouddi National Park, home to native birds, swamp wallabies and forested picnic areas.

The beach is within walking distance of Ettalong Village, where you’ll find cafes, bakeries and antique shops. Shoppers are in luck at the Indoor Markets, a collection of small old-world markets that sell everything from salt lamps to incense, jewellery, toys and pottery. Unexpected delights include elaborate murals, gold-gilded walls, Baroque decor and an Elvis impersonator.

Many beach resorts in Ettalong provide public entertainment facilities. You can soak in Roman baths and spas, enjoy fresh seafood at upscale restaurants and drink cocktails in chic lounges.

Getting around

Ettalong Beach is 80 kilometres north of Sydney, with transportation via rail, bus and ferry boats from Palm Beach. To get around in Ettalong, you can hire a taxi or rent a car in Gosford, about 15 kilometres away.
