Things to do

High Street anchors Nagambie’s town centre, filled with local shops, cafes and museums. Admire a collection of local memorabilia and period furniture at Nagambie Historical Museum, located inside the old courthouse. The Colonial Doll Shop and Museum harbours a fascinating collection of childhood memorabilia from the mid-1800s, where you can purchase one-of-a-kind dolls, miniatures and stuffed animals.

Stroll to the end of Goulburn Valley to visit Jacobson’s Outlook, a bucolic park connecting the town centre to Lake Nagambie. Look for the statue of Black Caviar, the famous Australian racehorse born in Nagambie who was proudly undefeated throughout her racing career.

Renowned wineries dot the landscape around Nagambie, including Mitchelton Wines on the Goulburn River about 14 kilometres south of town. Enjoy unfettered views from the winery’s 55-metre-tall observation tower, as well as wine sampling at Preece Lounge. Spend a full afternoon at Tahbilk Winery and Vineyard with a cruise or long walk along the boardwalk of Tahbilk Wetlands and Wildlife Reserve.

Take a riverboat tour along the Goulburn River, about 40 kilometres south of Nagambie, or spend a sunny afternoon canoeing, kayaking and fishing for trout and redfin. Lake Nagambie, created by the Goulburn Weir, offers plenty of boating, water skiing, swimming and picnicking opportunities.

Getting around

Nagambie sits about 123 kilometres north of Melbourne on the Goulburn Valley Highway. You can pick up a rental car in Melbourne or Shepparton, about a 40-minute drive from Nagambie, or rent a bike, taxi or private driver for wine touring.
