About Nanchang

Nanchang’s verdant gardens and emerald river have earned the city its reputation as the “Green Pearl” of southern China. With a splendid history dating back over 2,000 years, Nanchang boasts many treasured relics and is considered the epicenter of cuisine, culture and art in Jiangxi.

Things to do

Magnificent views await aboard the Star of Nanchang, a 160-meter-high Ferris wheel set on the banks of the Gan River. Embark on a 30-minute ride in an enclosed gondola and soak up 360-degree views over Nanchang City, Gan River and Xi Mountain.

Stroll along the Gan River in the evening to witness the River Edge Light Show. A synchronized display of neon lights illuminates the city’s skyscrapers. For the most spectacular vantage point, head to the Honggutan side of the river and view the performance from Qiushui Square.

Marvel at the Pavilion of Prince Teng, one of the Four Great Towers of China and the pride and joy of Nanchang’s people. First built in 653 AD, the landmark red-lacquer tower is trimmed with green-and-gold tiered pergolas and stands at 12 meters to symbolize the former city walls. Wander through the beautiful gardens and admire the vibrant calligraphy.

Take a day trip to Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China where various ships have sunk over the years giving it the nickname “China’s Bermuda Triangle”. Join a tour to learn about its mysterious history and visit the Poyang Lake Bird Protection Area, a sanctuary for rare migratory birds.

Getting around

Fly into Changbei International Airport or take a train or bus from Beijing, Xian, Shanghai or Shenyang. Once in Nanchang, the metro is the most efficient way to get around, while ferries access Poyang Lake.
