An international center for the collection and preservation of Australian road transport history, the National Motor Museum exhibits vintage, veteran and classic motorcars and motorcycles. Located in South Australia, it houses Australia’s most important automobile collections along with exhibits highlighting the social history of these vehicles.
Visit the museum’s contemporary exhibition halls to admire its range of permanent and touring displays, which share the stories of people and vehicles that have shaped Australia’s motoring history. See what the interior of a mechanical workshop looked like in the “1920s Garage” display, while “Model Behaviour” showcases a variety of toy and model cars.
You’ll find hand-built and mass-produced vehicles, and see the impact many of them had in linking isolated communities. The museum regularly hosts special events, including the Bay to Birdwood Run, The Bay to Birdwood Classic and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Rendezvous.
Getting there
Located 50 kilometers from Adelaide in the township of Birdwood, the National Motor Museum is best reached by private vehicle. If you don't have your own vehicle, hire cars are widely available in the city and metropolitan areas as well as at Adelaide Airport.
