Docklands Stadium, also referred to as Etihad Stadium, is one of Australia’s largest stadiums hosting multiple sports and entertainment events. Sports fans pour through the gates to watch AFL football, BBL cricket and A-League soccer competitions throughout the year, including Soccer World Cup Qualifiers and various international events.
Since opening in 2000, Docklands/Etihad Stadium has welcomed some of the biggest musical stars in the world, including Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, the Foo Fighters and Eminem. Retractable seating allows for customised events, designed to get fans closer to the action. A retractable roof caters to all weather situations and can open or close in eight minutes.
High-tech features in the stadium include its 1,500 screen displays with high-definition IPTV flashing out everything from interactive quiz competitions to game stats, fan photos and live-action shots. The stadium has over 100 Wi-Fi access points and offers real-time interaction via the Etihad Live app.
Getting there
Reaching Docklands Stadium by train is easy when exiting at Southern Cross Station, which is adjacent to the stadium. You can cross the 20-metre-wide elevated Bourke Street pedestrian bridge to the stadium entrance. Trams stop throughout the Central Business District, which is about a 10-minute walk away.
