About Loen

Located where Nordfjorden meets Lake Lovatnet, Loen is a picturesque village that’s home to some of the oldest farms in Norway. It’s famed for the Loen Skylift that runs to the peak of Mount Hoven and offers a prime location for exploring Jostedalsbreen National Park and the tiered waterfall of Ramnefjellsfossen.

Get a bird’s eye view of Loen and the turquoise waters of Nordfjorden as you ride the Loen Skylift, which travels to the 1,011-metre-high summit of Mount Hoven. It offers sweeping views of Mount Skåla and Lake Lovatnet to the east, as well as the immense Jostedal Glacier.

Spend a day hiking between the traditional mountain farms of Jostedalsbreen National Park before marvelling at the 818-metre-high drop of Ramnefjellsfossen. Up for a challenge? You can follow the climbing route to the top of Mount Hoven, which crosses the 120-metre long Gjølmunnebrua Suspension Bridge.

Getting there

Loen is around three hours’ drive from Ålesund and Ålesund Airport while the smaller Ørsta-Volda Airport is just over an hour away. Regular buses connect south to Bergen and north to Trondheim and Loen’s city centre is compact enough to explore on foot.
