About Beitun District

Beitun District combines urban appeal with beautiful mountain scenery. Set on the outskirts of Taichung City, the neighbourhood is home to an excellent folk museum and one of the biggest night markets in Taiwan.

Things to do in Beitun District

Step back in time and immerse yourself in local culture at Taichung Folklore Park. The open-air heritage museum is dotted with traditional Taiwanese buildings set in serene gardens. Visit the gift shop to purchase handmade arts and crafts souvenirs.

Fengjia Night Market is one of the largest in Taiwan and will tempt you with delicious street food and snacks. Get lost in the maze of sizzling food stalls and try local specialties like stinky tofu, spicy beef noodle soup, oyster omelettes and “gua bao” Taiwanese hamburgers. You’ll also find stalls selling clothes, accessories, toys and electronics.

Song Zhu Temple dates back to 1833 and is dedicated to Guanyin, the Chinese god of compassion. Walk under the cherry-red lanterns strung across the entrance to the temple and admire the 15-metre-tall sea fig tree in the central courtyard. The tree is a protected historic landmark and is more than 160 years old.
